A rainbow in my hallway

So, Pinterest is a terrible addiction. It's also incredibly helpful for homeschooling projects, and craft ideas for the boys and I. One of the more popular things I have seen floating around was melted crayon art, like this one. Well, that seemed easy enough!

One quick trip to Michaels for a canvas and Walmart for some spray paint and a 64 box of crayons later, we got started. Or rather, I got started. I'm a bit OCD about things lining up, and that plus a 5 year old and a 2 year old don't always mix. So one night, after bedtime, I got started.

I had been planing on using epoxy to glue the crayons on, but my Princess child was sleeping in my bed/crafting area, so I didn't want her to be smelling all that. So I broke out the trusty Elmer's!

This part of the project took the longest by FAR. I wanted all the colors to be like a rainbow, which meant getting the colors lined up in the right order.

But is this not the most cheerful sight?

The next morning, we took it outside and started to use a blow dryer to melt the crayons. This, however, ended up being more work then it was worth. The crayon's didn't melt more then halfway down the canvas and it was taking forever. So a re-think was called for, and I carelessly leaned it up against the house in the sun to see if that might do anything.

20 minutes later, the crayons had melted all the way to the bottom, and were starting to pool. Oops!

All in all though, it was a great cheap craft and looks great on my wall!

New in town.

Well, I finally did it. I started a blog. Well, restarted.

I'm hoping that this site will be used to share crafty completions, homeschool successes and family moments.

I hope you enjoy the ride.
